On the 7th of February Room 13 went to Wainui for camp. To get there it was a very long drive and a walk that felt like it went on forever.
We left Casebrook just after 9:00am and headed to Wainui. We stopped at Little River for a bit and then went over a hill and down a bendy road to get to Tikao Bay. Overall it took about an hour and a half to get to where we started our trek.
As we pulled up to where we started the trek, the instructors were waiting for us. We all gathered round and got a quick briefing for the trek and then we started walking down the road towards the hill. As we started walking up the hill we all started to get tired because the trek was longer than we expected. We went past a pond and then onto a dirt path, there was a lot of mud over the path and a few people struggled to get through so a few shoes ended up covered in mud. Once we got onto the downhill bit it was hard to stop walking due to the steepness.
Once we arrived at the campsite, there were two YMCA instructors waiting for us and they gave us some important safety information. We then proceeded to go down to the lower level to set up the tents. Our group weren’t very good at pitching tents and the first one we finished had to be redone by one of the parent helpers. Once we had all of our tents set up we had some downtime which we used to explore where we were going to be living for the next three days.
