Wow, what a fun camp all 33 of the students had. If I had to describe it in one word that would be “epic”.
The weather was perfect for 4 days, you couldn’t have got any better. We had perfect views of Mt Cook every day.
The main activities we did on camp included Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Orienteering, Glacier Boating, Governors Bay Walk, Hooker Valley Walk and Mt John Walk.
We also did workshops on Search and Rescue and Native Plants to NZ. One night we went to the Edmund Hillary Centre which included a planetarium movie and one on Mt Cook. On the final day, we went to the Tekapo Hot Pools.
On behalf of all the students, we would also like to thank our parent helpers and teachers for going on this camp we really could not have done it without you.
The meals on camp were - yum yum yum. For breakfast each day we got to pick from things like peaches or pears with ricies, cornflakes, weetbix or toast on the last day we got to even got hot chips from the night before thanks to Mr Halaifonua.
Each day for lunch we had wraps and for dinner the first night we had lasagne and garlic bread. The next night we had American hot dogs and coleslaw and on the last night, we had hamburgers and super yummy chips. Don’t let me forget dessert … ice cream on the first 2 nights and on the last night we had s’mores.
It really was the best camp. If you didn't go then you should definitely go next time!
The highlight of my trip would have to be the glacier boating, this really is a trip of a lifetime. On the trip, they told us that 150 years ago the Tasman Glacier was all the way out to the main road. In the last 27 years, it has shrunk 5kms so within the next 40 years it will only be able to be accessed by helicopter :-(. So you all need to go there now and see it while you can.
We also got to taste 300-600 year old ice, we drove the boat up onto one of the icebergs and also got to touch it. The ice tasted freeeezzzinnng but delicious.
Below is a small snippet of photos from our a-maze-ing experience in the Mt Cook region.
