On Tuesday the 12th of September, Room 3 made pizzas for the homeless to complete our inquiry about displacement of people in the world.
To make the pizza dough we followed a recipe Mrs Dick-McCann gave us. First we added the yeast in warm water and kept it in a warm environment until we were ready to use it. Then we measured the flour, sugar, baking soda, oil into a large bowl. Next we mixed it all together while pouring the yeast in slowly. Then we went in with our hands and folded it and pushed it down until it formed a ball. When it was ready we were able to knead it using the fast technique rip, rip, rip and roll. Once we had enough time using the rip, rip, rip and roll technique we had a competition to see whose would stretch the furthest.
When it was ready we rolled it out with a rolling pin to fit the tray we were cooking it in. When it fit in the tray we added our sauce base, cheese and our toppings. The pizza toppings that we put on the pizzas were different combinations using pineapple, spring onion, ham and pepperoni. We could also choose to add BBQ sauce swirl on top. For the bases we either used tomato paste or a tomato and garlic pasta sauce. We of course sprinkled a generous handful of cheese on top.
Then we cooked it and packaged it ready to be picked up by two representatives from the Christchurch City Mission. When they came to collect the pizzas the next day, they took a photo of our class to promote on their website and facebook page.
