Matthieu is a Year 7 student at Casebrook Intermediate and had been doing Gymnastics in his own time, but he didn’t enjoy it that much so he swapped to Trampolining. He now enjoys what he does. The person that inspired him to do these activities was Dylan Schmidt, an Olympic Trampoliner, he was interested in what Dylan did and wanted to give it a go.
In Trampolining, Matthieu learns new skills and routines so he can improve and compete. He looks forward to learning newer, better skills and getting to higher levels, he also looks forward to competitions where he can compete against other skilled people. His favourite thing to do in trampolining is different types of flips.
Matthieu practises four days a week, three of those days he does two hours and on the other day he does three hours.
This year he has been in five competitions and he has won 80% of them. All together he has won about 50 medals, around 80-100 certificates and 6 trophies (he has won more trophies than that but he had to give them back after a year). Matthieu’s biggest challenge that he has faced was his fear of failing/not completing a trick. He is competing at International level and rates his performances at around a 6-7 out of 10 as he doesn’t always do his best.
Hopefully he continues to do well at all of his competitions throughout the year and we look forward to seeing him on TV at the Olympics one day.
