We are seeing huge improvements with our school-wide attendance here at Casebrook Intermediate.
We know that the work we are doing to encourage our young people to school is working and with the support of our community, this is beginning to show up in our attendance data.
As a school, having accurate data ensures we can identify patterns of non-attendance early and put the necessary systems in place to help support students and whānau. Communicating with school when your child is going to be absent is really helpful. When we don't hear from anyone this is recorded as an 'Unexplained Absence' and after too many of these our school policy is to refer students and whānau to Attendance Services for further support.
In Term 3, 2023, we had 48% of our students attending regularly (90-100%). Regular attendance is classified as less than 5 days absent per term.
In Term 3, 2024 we had 59% of our students attending regularly which is a huge improvement.
The government's target is to have 80% of students attending by 2030 so although we have made some positive progress we know we still have work to do.
Our biggest target is trying to support students who are attending between 80-90%. In Term 3 this year we had 23% of our students attending at this bracket.
