Leo Chai recently participated in a swimming meet representing his club, 'Dragons.'

Room 14 students interviewed Leo Chai to find out about his recent swimming success.

  • How did you feel at the swimming competition?

At the competition I felt good and I was excited to race as I've been training the whole entire 2 weeks of the school holiday. This meant that I felt prepared.

  • What was your favourite event in the competition and why?

My favourite event was the 100M Freestyle because my time for that is very close to the qualifying time for Nationals (New Zealand short course).

  • How long have you been practising swimming?

I've been a part of the swimming club/squad for seven years but I have been swimming competitively for three years now.

  • What was the hardest part of the competition for you?

The hardest part of the competition was racing because I had to compete in several different events throughout the day.

  • How were your results?

I was happy with my results. My positions were different for every event but I was sitting at 3rd to 4th for each event.  My best event was 100M breaststroke where I came 1st.

  • How do you stay motivated to keep practising?

My goal for this year is to qualify for nationals, therefore I must stay motivated if I want to reach my goal.

  • What’s your favourite thing about swimming?

My favourite thing about swimming is being able to compete against others!

  • Do you have a favourite swimming stroke?

My favourite stroke is freestyle and breaststroke. They are my favourite because they are my best strokes.

  • What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a successful swimmer?

Some advice I would give to someone who wants to be a successful swimmer is to never give up.
