Ki-O-Rahi Tournament

A great way to end Te wiki o Te Reo Māori language week

Two Ki-o-Rahi teams took part in the tournament run by the Aranui Community Trust at Cowles Stadium. It was a great experience filled with teamwork, perseverance, and cultural learning.

Ki-o-Rahi is a fast-paced game that combines elements of tag, rugby, and handball, all based on a Māori legend. Our teams had coaches in for the last two weeks taking sessions, learning the game’s unique rules and developing strategies. For some of our players, this was their first time engaging with the sport, but their enthusiasm and determination were evident on the day.

The team showed immense skill and sportsmanship, demonstrating our school values of respect, excellence, and perseverance. Every player gave their best, supporting each other both on and off the field.

The best part of the day? During lunchtime, there was a haka-off between teams. As always the haka was performed with passion and pride, and guess what? We won! Check out the video
