We caught up with Arlia and Jay who went to the AIMS tournament in Tauranga in week 8.
Arlia and Jay went as individual athletes on behalf of Casebrook with Jay participating in badminton and Arlia in surfing. We asked them some questions about their time away.
How long have you been doing your chosen sport for?
A: Three years
J: Four years
What made you decide to go to AIMS?
A: To compete against more people
J: To challenge myself against harder competitors
What was the best thing about AIMS?
A: Meeting new people
J: Meeting new people and catching up with friends
How hard was the competition?
A: It was pretty similar to what I do when I compete in Christchurch.
J: It was easy for the first few games, after I qualified Division 1 and then it was a lot more challenging.
How did you feel with how you went personally?
A: Pretty good, the surf didn't work in my favour as it was pretty flat so it made it hard to catch waves
J: I did OK, I won all my group games before I qualified for Division 1 and unfortunately it was knock out from that point on and I lost my first game.
