Week eight and there’s so much to celebrate

Week eight and there’s so much to celebrate. For half our school, myself included, we have been a part of the Casebrook community for nearly a term.

Since day one I have been impressed by the way students aspire to be a Casebrook REP. I have witnessed and been a part of many positive interactions with our students, both within and beyond the classroom. Whether it’s students striving for personal excellence during our recent EOTC trips, respectfully using the school driveway, saying a cheerful hello to peers and adults, working collaboratively in their learning, each of these actions make us proud of our emerging adolescents and reinforces the strong sense of community we have here.

A big appreciation goes out to our Year 8 students for their exceptional support in familiarising our Year 7 students with the ways of Casebrook life. An outstanding demonstration of this is the remarkable turnout at Kapa Haka on Fridays, with over 150 students participating. Additionally, our Casebrook dance and other extension activities further demonstrate the experiences available. Next week we gear up for winter sports team trials and there are plenty more opportunities like these to come.

Over the term, a group of our Year 8 Pasifika and Māori students have been taking part in Mana Tamaiti at Fale Eke. They have been looking at mixing traditional symbols with modern technology to create laser cutting designs and printed tote bags.

Last week we had an engaging and informative talk by Tamatea from Attitude around the topic of Tacking Technology. Students learned about the new skills and guidance they need as young people to navigate their digital world. Some of the key messages were to stay positive online, focus on quality not quantity and to be a user of technology rather than have technology consuming you.

Casebrook Intermediate is lucky to have Cam and Seb from LifeChanger coming in to work with our students. The focus is on building social, emotional and resilience skills with links to our school values of Respect, Excellence and Perseverance. If you want more information on LifeChanger please email the school office.

As always if you have any questions or concerns we encourage you to contact your classroom teacher or any of the staff in the office.
