Minecraft Competition

A group of keen Minecrafters entered into a competition last week that was held at Tūranga.

These questions were posed to the Minecrafters and here are their responses on this awesome event.

  1. How did you prepare for this event?
  2. What was the best part of this event?
  3. What did you do at the event?
  4. How did you show REP at the event?

Mitchell Oldfield

  1. We did lots of training in the Digi room and did the build lots of times.
  2. Seeing some of my friends from Breens and the overall experience.
  3. We build what we have been training to build and some of my friends from Breen's set the record for the longest stick made out of Lego.
  4. I respected the equipment, listened to others, and made my part of the build better every time.

Jack Lowe

  1. We prepared by doing training almost every day and we sometimes practiced over lunch time.
  2. The best part about this event is I got to see some of my friends from my old school.
  3. At this event we had to build something that we thought would be good to put in the red zone
  4. I showed REP at this event by being supportive to the other teams and listening to their ideas.

Paige McIlroy

  1. We prepared for the event by practicing multiple times and making a plan on a piece of paper to know what we were going to build.
  2. The best part of the event was getting to build it, my favourite thing that was built was definitely the raised boardwalk around our build.
  3. At the event we built a big amphitheatre connecting with the boys' building, we also built a picnic area next to the wetlands area. We added a playground with a treehouse and slides coming down from the treehouse. Last but not least we had the boardwalk that went around our whole entire build.
  4. I showed REP at the event by listening to the teacher in charge and not talking over top of him. I also showed REP by doing what he told us we could do and only building in our square even though we were allowed to look around at other peoples builds.

Sahil Sharma

  1. The way that we prepared was by first making a plan of what we were going to build. Then we had about five practices before the actual Minecraft event.
  2. The best part of the event for me was seeing all of the builds when the barriers were broken and how everything connected.
  3. At the event we chose where we were going to sit, got all of our blocks and controls ready and waited until we were able to build. We then built our plan to the best of our abilities.
  4. We showed respect by helping other teams and giving them encouragement. We showed excellence by building to the best of our ability and we showed perseverance by trying our absolute hardest even when it got hard.

We did the competition in two, 20 minute segments. Totaling 40 minutes. In our break we were able to explore and have a play around the 1st floor of the library. After we were done building we had a look all around the library and we got to play on the Playstation 5's.

Thanks Mr Mutch for taking this group to the Minecraft competition!
