Woven Cultures in Digitech

38 Māori and Pasifika students, two teachers and a day of interactive digital technologies. What makes it better? Our Pasifika and Māori culture woven in.

Based at Tūranga Library, a group of our students who identify as Māori or Pasifika spent the day working with Techsperts in a range of digital technologies.

The day started off with working with  Te Papatipu Matihiko - creating a digital version of their pepeha using the interface of Fortnite. Students rotated around the computers and all had a chance to put their own flair on their world.

The second workshop was using Tinkercad to create a Waka or Waka Hourua which was awesome as it linked into our previous terms inquiry topic. These waka hourua will hopefully be 3D printed in our digital technology room.

The final workshop of the day was working with Nikora Ngaporo who ran an animation workshop where the students were given a taster on animation. Nikora has worked on movies such as Avatar, The BFG, Planet of the Apes, The Hobbit and The Avengers.

A huge fa'afetai tele lava to Tagata Moana Trust and Te Hapori Matahiko who made this day happen for us. It is so exciting to see our Māori and Pasifika experts in technology and helping us think where we might go in our future careers.
