Relationship and Sexuality Education is being taught in classrooms at Te Kura Mareko Casebrook during Week 8 -10 the term.

Sexuality Education is part of The New Zealand Curriculum, and it is a requirement that it is taught as part of the PE and Health learning area from Years 1-10.

The purpose of Sexuality Education is to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to develop positive attitudes towards sexuality, to take care of their sexual health and wellbeing, and to enhance their interpersonal relationships, now and in the future.

Your child will be taught using a programme Navigating the Journey - Relationships and Sexuality Education, developed by Family Planning. The following themes will be covered:

  • Establishing a positive learning environment.
  • Who am I?
  • Relationships.
  • Growing and Changing.
  • Staying Safe.

More details will be emailed to you by the end of this week including an overview of the lessons and an invitation to attend our parent and whānau evening.
