On a chilly morning, 15 excited students embarked on a fishing trip, marking the debut of a police-led community initiative.
Despite the cold, 15 out of 20 students eagerly gathered for a unique fishing trip organised by the local police. This is the first time the police have launched such an initiative, and our school is thrilled to be part of it. The event took place from 8am to 12pm, and while no fish were caught, the students had an unforgettable time.
The day was filled with fun and laughter, ending with a delicious BBQ lunch. The kids were thrilled to receive spot prizes like torches, drink bottles, and fishing gear. This initiative not only gave the kids a memorable experience but also helped strengthen the bond between the community and the police.
Sophia from Room 10 shared her thoughts on the day:
What is blue light fishing?
"Blue Light fishing is a club where you learn about fishing and how to fish."
What did you enjoy about the fishing trip?
"I enjoyed fishing in general and hanging out with my friends."
What was your highlight?
"My highlight was getting to fish and only getting my rod stuck in the tree two times."
Do you have any good fishing tips?
"Try not to get the rod in the tree. Don’t cast the rod back too far."
Did you catch any fish?
"Nobody caught any fish that day."
Where did you go fishing?
"We went to Lake Rua."
Did you use fishing gear?
"We used a fishing rod, but it was hard learning how to use some of the gear."
The students' feedback highlights the value of such community events in teaching new skills and promoting friendships.
