Room 3 students have interviewed some of the main cast for this years production.
Te Kura Mareko's production for 2024 is Robin Hood. We have caught up with some of the main cast to ask them questions on how what they are looking forward to this year:
What is your role in the production, and can you tell us a little bit about your character?
Arlia: Arlia is Maid Marian. Marian is very independent and wants to do everything for herself.
Lydia: Lydia is Maid Marian's understudy. She yells at people a lot. Also very independent.
Jared: I play Robin Hood for the production. My character is kinda cheeky and funny though.
Bonnie: My role is understudy on Robin Hood. I steal from the rich and give to the poor and I like to help people. I'm the good guy. Robin Hood is very nice but also kinda romantic.
What excited you most about being part of this production?
A: I just like being on the stage and practising with my friends.
L: Definitely the practices and the costumes and dress rehearsal.
J: Performing in front of everybody.
B: I am most excited about meeting new people and taking the opportunity to be in the production.
How did you prepare for your role, and what are you doing to get into character?
A: I just had to keep on practising. I got my mum to do the other lines and then I just had to pretend that I am Maid Marian.
L: You definitely have to practise a lot and you have to know a lot about the person you are portraying to really get into character.
J: Practising lines, getting into character and practising accents.
B: I had to read over and learn at least 2-3 pages a day. I recite the lines, try to remember them from my heart. I make up actions with the lines and try to represent Robin Hood's personality
How do you feel about performing for an audience?
A: I feel a little bit worried but I should be ok if I keep practising
L: I'm really excited because I'm a dancer so I love being on stage.
J: I don't really have stage fright, it's more really when I mess up but apart from that I think I'm really good at getting into character
B: Honestly I don't really feel nervous because I like showing off how I can perform.
Who or what inspired you to pursue acting, and how did you get started?
A: I started at primary school for the production I had that year. I just got a tiny role but it made me want to get bigger roles. I don't know how I started but I love it!
L: Watching my favourite movie and the fancy cast I guess.
J: Well I guess I really liked being funny and I kinda got myself into drama. I just really enjoy it.
B: It was the speech competition and I realised I could memorise my speech off by heart and I realised I loved to perform.
What advice would you give to students who might want to get involved in theatre or acting?
A: Just keep on trying because you never know what part you could get.
L: Always give it a go and if you don't get in the first time use that as motivation.
J: Just go for it, if you don't like it you can always back out but I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
B: My advice is if you are not sure if you want to get into it just give it a go because you never know, you could love it.
Is there a particular scene or line that you are most excited to perform?
A: Sir Guy: "No fair I can’t fight a woman." Maid Marian: "Sucks to be you."
L: The Sheriff says “He's invincible” And I say “Oh please” and flip him onto my shoulder .
J: There are a lot of lines but I think I can do it!
B: When I am pretending to be a beggar. I think it's funny.
