Summer with your neighbours

Have you ever wanted to organise a neighbourhood gathering?  Do you want to get to know the people who live close to you? Perhaps you've always wanted to put on a potluck for the whole street?  Then it's time to apply for a subsidy from your local community board towards a get-together summer event with your neighbours and/or community.

You can hold your morning tea / BBQ / picnic / lunch / dinner / fun event any time between 26 October 2024 to 31 March 2025. The subsidy goes towards provision of food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Applications are open now and close on Sunday 11 August 2024.  Online applications are preferred so go to Summer with your neighbours to apply.  Your local library will have printed forms if you don't have access to a computer.

PAINTERS SPACE - Fri 9 Aug, 10am-12noon, $5 per session, 6 weeks

Each Friday a friendly group of people who enjoy making art, meet in the hall at WEA to paint, draw, collage and generally be creative. Some have been painting or drawing for a while and are happy to share our skills. So, if you want help, or a different perspective on your art, maybe additional inspiration or a space to create, join us. What can you expect in our sessions? We begin with a talk accompanied by slides for about 20-30mins, then have a cuppa and chat, followed by making art.  You can bring your own creative work rather than follow the theme for the day and proceed at your own pace with likeminded people. We each bring along our own materials e.g. brushes, paint and paper/canvas. Note: we have some pencils, paint and water jars/newspaper as well as boards to lean on.

Recapture a sense of play, curiosity and awe using a wide range of art materials. Dabble, scribble, smear, smudge, drip, rip and tear your way through the afternoon under Margaret's guidance. Less about what you create and more about enjoying the creative process. You'll make several small pieces of art during the afternoon.

Lancaster Park – Community Planting Day

The Parks Unit are planning another planting day on Saturday 24 August from 10 am to 12 pm.

More than 11,000 native trees and shrubs will be planted this season by Christchurch City Council, local residents and stakeholders on the western side of the former stadium site. A secondary path will also be installed throughout the area.

Please come and join us. Wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing and bring your own water to stay hydrated.  There will be tools available but you can certainly bring your own if you wish.

See you there!
