Olympics Learning Fun

The 2024 Paris Olympics are all finished, and what a great watch it was!

New Zealand has 20 medals with ten gold, seven silver, and three bronze. Amazingly, Finn Butcher got one of those gold medals for NZ in Kayak Cross. Another gold medal for NZ is from the Women's Rugby Sevens. Lisa Carrington has also won three gold medals in rowing at the Paris Olympics!

The Olympics is always an exciting time and it was awesome to watch sports that you wouldn’t normally watch. Some of the favourites have been the running sprints, triathlon, decathlon, gymnastics, table tennis, and basketball.

Room 1 and 2 have been learning about all the Olympics. We caught up with Lucas and Luka to see what they have been doing and enjoying.

Question: What have you been learning about the Olympics?

Answer: We have been learning all about the different events, and the countries.

Question: What have you found interesting?

Answer: We found that USA has 126 medals in the Olympics.

Question: What activities did you do in your Olympics booklets?

Answer: We did a range of different things including some French.

Question: What is your favourite sport to watch?

Answer: 100 meter sprints was a favourite, as well as swimming and table tennis.

For statistics in Room 3 and 4, we did an investigation on whether the size of the country contributed to how many medals they received. What we found was interesting! In some cases, the larger countries received more medals but overall we did not find much of a correlation. New Zealand, being a small country, actually does well overall!

We have really enjoyed Paris 2024. See you again in four years time!
