On Friday, 23rd of August the speech competition took place in the hall. 31 students competed overall and each did an awesome job at presenting their topics.

The overall winners for the Year 8 speeches were Quinn Scott (Room 1), Kisara Wickrama Pathirama (Room 7), and Ben Stribling (Room 9). The overall winners for Year 7 were Bonnie Wan (Room 12), Cooper Trenberth (Room 12), and Joshua Pedley (Room 15). These students will be heading to the Rotary semi-finals.

We asked some of the winners a couple of questions about the speeches. Bonnie's topic is why New Zealand is the best place for the next Olympics. Bonnie chose this topic because when she was watching the 2024 Olympics, she was influenced by it and thought it would be cool to have it held in New Zealand next. While Bonnie was presenting her speech, she felt confident inside and a mix of excitement.

Next, we interviewed Ben Stribling. His topic is on friends, foes, teammates or rivals. The main idea he wanted to highlight was the different types of siblings. He said, “We can be friends with our siblings, sometimes foes.”

All the contestants did very well. Good job to you all and congratulations to the winners!
