On Monday and Tuesday of Week 5, Casebrook sent teams to the CAIMS Winter Tournament to take part in table tennis, basketball, football, netball, hockey, rugby 7s, badminton, and volleyball.
These teams competed at Hagley Park, Pioneer Stadium, Nunweek, Zhu Badminton, and Hornby High School. Unfortunately, due to poor weather on the first day, football and rugby matches were postponed. However, conditions improved on Tuesday, allowing these sports to be played.
We interviewed two CAIMS participants about their experiences at the tournament:
Leo Chai (Room 9):
What sport did you play?
I played basketball for the boys A team. This was played at Pioneer Stadium on Monday and Tuesday.
What did you like most about CAIMS?
I enjoyed being able to play basketball during school time. It was cool getting to play with the team I usually play with on Friday nights. We got to play against a range of different schools and meet lots of new people.
Phoebe Griffins (Room 12):
What sport did you play?
Football at Hagley Park on Tuesday.
How many goals or shots did your team make overall?
I'd say 6 or 7 goals, but I made 0. In one game, we tied with Christchurch South because one of our players scored a goal for the other team.
The standout result from the tournament was the Boys A Rugby 7s team placing second. Well done!
