First Lego League Competition

On the 10th of November, The FLL (First Lego League) teams competed in a series of challenges which included making a Lego robot and coding it to do all of the tasks.

This event was held in the Lincoln Events Centre. At the competition there were some new rules such as, when you touch the robot outside of the semi circle you lose a precision token. We also got to have three practice runs and three competition runs. On a sheet at the front table you could also book more practices to run through your code. Mr Mutch also brought along some extra Lego sets that we could play with while we were waiting for our practice runs.

Previously, both teams had been practising on a Lego table with challenges they must complete with a Lego bot. This bot had to be coded to drive to all missions on the table to complete them. On the competition day, the bot had to do as many missions as it could in two and a half minutes. One of Casebrook’s teams had lost some of their code and had to recode most of the missions.

The two competing First Lego League teams came 17th and 7th out of 20 teams, in all of the South Island. The competition was all great fun and the team that came first goes to Auckland to compete for all of New Zealand. Overall both teams did an outstanding job because it is the first time Mr Mutch has put teams in to compete in FLL, so big thanks to him otherwise we wouldn’t have had the chance to compete.
