We want to say a massive thank you to the caregivers/whānau who continue to let us know when their child is going to be away. If you forget to let us know on the day, the following day is acceptable and we will update it on our system.
Here are a couple of examples that might help whānau to understand what happens behind the scenes when we check the attendance.
"Tom will not be at school today."
Unfortunately, this gets marked as an explained, but unjustified absence as it doesn't fit within our school policy for justified absences.
What helps the office is knowing a little more detail about why they are going to be away.
"Tom will not be at school today as he will be attending a funeral"
This example fits within our school policy for a justified reason for a child to be absent.
"Sally has appointments to attend today"
This gets marked as an explained, but unjustified absence as there is not enough information.
"Sally has an orthodontist appointment to attend today"
This gets marked down as a dental absence and is counted as a justified reason for absence.
