Casebrook Intermediate has continued to work with International Students from all over the world.
Most recently we had Jeonju School visit us all the way from Korea. Prior to their arrival, Room 9 had interactive lessons with them online. These lessons were to provide the Korean students with an insight to what life is like in New Zealand. It will also allow them to develop their English speaking skills.
Some of the lessons included an introduction lesson about ourselves and a lesson about the tourist attractions in Christchurch. Students from Jeonju also taught Room 9 about Climate Change and had a large focus on the importance of up-cycling. We got to learn about how Jeonju School works hard to protect the environment by minimising transport and recycling. It was reassuring to hear that different schools in different countries are all working towards the same goal.
When the students from Jeonju arrived in New Zealand, Room 9 got to learn with them in person. Some of the activities included up-cycling a self-watering planter with a recycled drink bottle.
We also got to learn about their culture. Some of our favourite activities were learning how to use chopsticks correctly, playing Gong-gi which is equivalent to the game knucklebones. We also got to experience learning Taekwondo moves, play Yutnori which is a Korean board game, play with Ddakji and Jaegichangi - some common games they play in Korea.
At the end of their trip it was special to receive a Hallabong Tree from Jeonju School. This is a fruit tree which is common in Korea. This tree was planted to remember their trip to New Zealand.
We have enjoyed connecting with Jeonju School and we look forward to meeting more international students throughout the year.
Thank you to Mrs Goulden who has worked so hard behind the scenes to bring this to life.
