This Friday sees us halfway through term three and what a busy first half of the term it has been!
Well done to the Year 7 and Year 8 teams that competed at the annual Cantamath competition last night at Horncastle Arena. Once again there were over 90 teams competing in each year level competition. The Year 7 team scored a commendable 35 points in a tough competition, which saw only 32 teams scoring higher than them. The Year 8 team scored a fabulous 65 points with only 10 teams scoring higher than them. Thank you to Anne Clark for training our teams this year.
Congratulations also to the pupils who had work entered into the display part of the competition. There was a wide range of amazing posters, publicity motifs and models. Special mention must be made about the Year 8 technical maths groups who worked with Lauren Dick-McCann to create fabulous mathematical-based quilts and Paul Cook to create an amazing 3.8m geodesic dome!
Last Thursday saw another successful ski trip to Mt Hutt. The 96 pupils and 5 staff members involved had a great day on the slopes with many pupils getting their first taste of skiing or snowboarding. Thanks to Sunia Halaifonua and Mark Russell for organising and running the trip.
Good luck to the pupils who will be competing next week at the South Island Indoor Tournament. They will be out of school on Monday and Tuesday competing in volleyball, badminton and basketball games.
The second half of the term will again be busy with the main focus being our whole school production 'Forward in Time'. Remember to purchase your tickets promptly so as to not miss out on seeing the performance!
