Talofa! Two weeks ago, it was Samoan Language Week. The Fresh Crew went around and asked some of the students and staff about Samoan Language Week. You can see this on our most recent Te Kura Mareko News episode.

First of all, how well do you know the language of Samoa? Not to worry if you don’t know much because this article will give you information for when it comes around next year.

1. Why is the Samoan language important?

It is a great way to keep the language and culture alive. It’s a good way to let people who don’t know much about Samoa and the language learn a bit.

2. What are your thoughts about Samoan language week only being one week?

Two to five weeks, at least!

3.  What is the meaning of talofa lava?

The meaning of talofa lava is hi or hello.

4. What is your favourite thing to say in Samoan?

Rusi's favourite saying is fa’amolemole, which means please.
