Invitation to join us making a difference to our environment

By Lauren Dick-McCann | Posted: Wednesday May 3, 2023

Casebrook joined Eco Action Trust last year and we now have the opportunity to plant out the native seedlings that we have grown on Sunday 14 May 10am - 12pm at 50 Atlantis St, Red Zone

Next Sunday will be our first opportunity to join in on a community planting day organised by Eco Action Trust.   We will be helping to plant 5000 native trees and plants that have been grown by students in Canterbury. It will be a fun day with a great atmosphere with heaps of fellow student and parent enthusiasts. We would love to see you there. Please bring some drinking water, solid footwear and your favourite spade if you have one. There will be 450 spades on site, for everyone to help. The more the merrier.

Help our community help itself by developing this asset that will last for generations to come. The grown forest will provide habitat and food for native birds and lizards as well as sequester carbon to help with global climate change. It's also quite fun to plant a few plants.

Hope to see you there.

This is the first of four plantings that will see 20,000 locally sourced, student grown, native plants and trees in the ground at 50 Atlantis St 14 May, 18 Jun, 30 Jul, 3 Sept.

The 20 schools growing plants currently are. Casebrook Intermediate, Tuahiwi Kura, St Michaels, Rawhiti Primary, SBHS, AGHS, STAC, Rangi Ruru, ChCh South Int, Heaton Int, CGHS, CBHS, Burnside Primary, St Margaret's, Cathedral Grammar,  St Patricks Primary, Christ's College, Medbury, Riccarton High and STAC Prep. Charles Upham, Ryman Rangiora and Richmond Community Gardens have also joined us.
