Each year our school competes in the Christchurch School's League tournament.
This year the tournament was held at Nga Puna Wai and our school entered two teams. It had a range of players who mostly play for other clubs but came together to represent Te Kura Mareko Casebrook at this tournament. The two teams placed second and fourth in the competition.
Schools that completed included: Chisnallwood, Kirkwood, St Thomas of Canterbury College, Breens, Haeata, Avonhead, Hillmorton and Te Pa o Rakaihautu School
Ryder, Kade & Hadler were interviewed to get their first-hand information from the tournament
How well did the team work together?
Kade: The team worked alright
Ryder: We were working together pretty good and working on passing and tackling together.
Hadler: Our team worked quite good and passed the ball around and did some hard straight yards. Also, we did really good tackling.
What was the toughest part of the competition?
Ryder: Probably some of the teams were really strong running and working together.
Kade: Not passing the ball around and being ball hogs.
Hadler: Agree with the boys. There were some quite hard teams, and in the end we versed two A teams, and lost to them.
Why is it important to get together and have these competitions?
Ryder: To get more people into playing league and give people a try and work together as a team. Play league.
Kade: New players can try it out.
Hadler: Active and fun to play. Working out fitness. Good pre season activity before Hagley starts.
What did you enjoy the most about the tournament?
Ryder: Playing league with our friends
Kade: Having fun
Hadler: Putting some big hits on the big boys.
This team will compete at the Hagley Sports starting in Week 5 and we look forward to checking back in with them as sport gets underway.
A huge thank you to Mr Whitley who coaches the league team and the whānau who came and supported them down at the grounds.
