Te Kura Mareko is lucky enough to have a Pasifika Cultural group that works closely with Tama Mai Saute, Miss Wilkinson and Mr Foster.
Every year our group gets bigger and bigger. This year is the biggest it has been ever. With over 90 students in our group they meet every Tuesday to work on Pasifika dance and song with Faith and Rikki from TMS.
This year the group is working towards the Sau Ia festival in Term 3 where they will join three other intermediates from Christchurch on the stage performing a siva, sasa and singing together.
Our group has a range of cultures represented, not just our Pacific Islands and it is a positive, vibrant and excellent place to be on a Tuesday morning.
The group will have their performance later this term for the "On Our Way" evening where they will be excited to share what they have been learning so far this year. Pasifika is not just about dance and song, the culture, traditions and language are woven into the sessions and the students really enjoy the opportunity to learn about new cultures and places.
