Our Casebrook Kapa Haka recently competed in the Tūhono competition and did our school extremely proud.
This competition was held at the Town Hall on Saturday the 26th of November. While there, the Casebrook group performed three items.
Firstly, we performed Te Po, a song about our tipuna as our opening. Waiata-ā-ringa, our waiata was Te Wero being a song about unity, and our haka was Taurekatiara all about having our voices heard.
At Tuhono we were only allowed 8 minutes and 30 seconds on stage. If we went over time it would cost us points and we needed the most points possible. We were awarded points for our outstanding soloist Jordan Mayes. We also had the opportunity to earn points by our formation and the extra items we added to our performance.
At Tūhono our Kapa Haka group did very well and won a few awards. We received best soloist, second best haka, best male leader, best use of traditional instruments and participation. Congratulations to Breens Intermediate who took out top place.
Everyone in the Casebrook Kapa Haka group should be really proud of the effort they displayed on stage. Our shell blowers Tyler, Braden, Fadi, Lucas, and Zayden, and our pukaia blower, Shivy, did a great job.
It was a tough competition because every school was giving 100% to win the competition. This was a great evening for all of us to embrace and let out all the hard work we had put into our performance. Our performance was very difficult as it was dedicated to those people in our lives that we have lost.
Thank you to our tutors Whaea Tania and Matua Willie who have put in hours of work to give us this opportunity. We would also like to thank Mrs Yardley who has worked with us over the year to ensure we are organised and prepared for our competitions. Finally, thank you to everyone who supported us on Saturday evening.
