What is science extension, you ask?
Science extension is an optional extension group for people who are interested to learn more about science and extend their knowledge.
I asked Ben and Alex from Room 5 a few questions about science extension, here are their answers!
Why did you sign up for science extension?
Ben - “I did it last year in term 1 and decided I really enjoyed it and chose to do it again this year."
Alex - “I thought that I didn't have much experience from primary school so I decided to sign up last year and really enjoyed it so I did it again this year”.
What have you guys been working on?
“We’ve been working on a rocket project, where we build a rocket in our groups. Once we finished creating our rockets we got to launch them. We had to record the statistics at the end”.
What materials did you use?
“Sprite bottles, paper cards, hot glue, bike pump, and water”.
How did your project go?
Ben - “I built my one with Jack, JD and James. Our one went pretty good, it went up quite high but it started tilting mid air due to one of the fins being smaller than the others which was annoying.”
Alex - “I did my one with Xavier and Zhibang. Our one didn’t go very well because we didn’t have time to finish it and there weren't enough Sprite bottles. On the day of the launch we had to launch our rocket upside down because we had to screw the top to the hole. It failed horribly.”
What was your favourite part?
Ben - “My favourite part was the day we launched our rocket”.
Alex - “My favourite part was predicting and watching our rocket fail.
