After the original camp being postponed, Room 6 finally enjoyed their four day camping experience in Wainui.
On the 5th of March, Room 6 set off for their camp to Wainui. Here is a review on some of the things we experienced while we were at camp.
What did we do in kayaking, and what is it?
Kayaking is a fun, wet and skilled activity that many people love to do in their spare time. In the sessions that we took with our lovely instructors, we learnt that there are many different types of strokes to use when out kayaking on a lake/beach. One of them was called a rainbow stroke, this is where you gently skim the water with your paddle; it helps you to turn around quicker.
What did we do in coasteering, and what is it?
Coasteering is a sport that lots of people around the world experience. Basically, you explore the coastline, swimming, climbing and jumping off different rocks in the process. You may even spot some animals in the ocean or on land! The best part would have to be jumping off the largest rock (5-6 metres high) and climbing around on the smaller rocks.
What did we do in abseiling, and what is it?
Abseiling is a fun and challenging activity, especially if you're afraid of heights. There was a ginormous tree with foot holds knocked into the truck so we could climb up. Firstly, you have to climb up the trunk of the tree and once you are at the top you lower yourself down the giant tree.
Sleeping in tents wasn't as bad as the students thought it would be, there were a few odd bugs; make sure the tent is always zipped up. Luckily, the parents and teachers fed everyone really well, the food was delicious! We had nachos, burgers and lasagna for the three nights there. Everyone in our class really enjoyed our time at camp and didn't want to leave Wainui.
