Our Casebrook Pasifika group has over 70 students this year and is looking stronger than ever.
Our Pasifika group is a fun learning experience for Year 7 and 8’s. Pasifika shows off and teaches us about the amazing culture. The group is run by Faith and Riki every Tuesday. This term we have been learning about the Samoan language and have been learning a sasa.
We interviewed our Pasifika leader Zayden Benett-Taunoa and Miss Wilkinson and asked them some questions about the group.
Zayden
What do you like about Pasifika?
I really enjoy learning about my culture.
What made you join Pasifika?
I wanted to try something new.
What do you think that Pasifika can improve on?
I think we could focus on learning and using the language more.
Miss Wilkinson
What do you like about Pasifika?
Working with other students and watching them learn more about my culture.
What made you start Pasifika?
So there was a group for our students to join to learn more about Pasifika song, dance and also the chance for our Pasifika students to connect together.
What do you think that Pasifika can improve on?
More chances for us to perform in front of the school. It would be cool to see Pasifika language and dance taught in classrooms. I think it would also be a great thing to have a whole school sasa for us to learn in classes.
