Bandquest 2021

On Tuesday the 16th of November ContraBand and DaBoiz were hoping to go to Bandquest but this year it was different because of Covid. They had to record their songs for Bandquest and wait for their results. They did a fantastic job with their video performance and even came away with some great results.

Rockshop Bandquest is a platform for the next generation of contemporary musicians to step out and perform in a supportive and encouraging competition format, with a focus on education, inspiration, and entertainment.

Contraband placed second, winning $200 credit with The Rockshop for school

DaBoiz won best original song, winning $100 credit with The Rockshop for school.

A massive shoutout to their tutor, Rhys Bell, for all of his hard work in preparing the boys for their performances.

We asked Tahana, Jay and Toby these questions about Bandquest and then they answered for their bands/da boys and culture band

Who is in your band? Gus, Tahana, and Cooper.

What did you think about your performance? The thing about a song is that people normally do pop and rock but our song was different because we did jazz and Mozart.

When did you start playing this instrument? Well, when I was very little I was introduced to a keyboard and I started to play and eventually, I started to get on very well on the keyboard.

Where did you perform? Bandquest was supposed to be in town but because of covid it was cancelled and every school had to record themselves and send it in.

Why did you write this type of song? Tahana said that he wanted a jazz song but then the band teacher wanted him to do a romantic song so he wrote the lyrics and it turned out to be a good song.

How did you and your band get together? Tahana and Gus were already in the band but Cooper had to audition for a part in a band.

Who is in your band? Toby, Max, Elliot A, Jay, and Lucas.

What did you think about your performance? Our song was good because it was an original and also it was about onions.

When did you start playing this instrument? Jay started playing the piano/keyboard at 8 years old and Toby started playing the guitar when he was 8 years old.

Where did you perform? Bandquest was supposed to be in town but because of covid it was cancelled and every school had to record themselves and send it in.

Why did you write this type of song? Toby wrote a song about onions because once he was in a car and he couldn’t think of anything to do other than write a song about onions.

How did you and your band get together? Jay and his friends decided to start a band.
