Last Sunday, the Casebook Intermediate Kapa Haka group, Te Kura Mareko, went to Tūhono.

This competition was held at Horncastle Arena in Addington on Sunday the 21st of November. While there, we performed three items, Pepeha as our opening. Waiata-ā-ringa, our second waiata was Te Hokinga Mai, and our haka was Waitaha Ripo Ripo.

At Tuhono we were only allowed eight minutes and 30 seconds. If we go over time it will cost us points and we needed the most points possible. We got more points because of our guitarist and soloist, we can also earn points by our formation and the extra items we bring to the performance.

At Tūhono our Kapa Haka group did so well and won many awards, including certificates and trophies. The certificates included a participation certificate and the best youth guitarist. The trophies we won were the 1st for Waiata Tira, 1st for Waiata Aringa, 1st for Haka, and first overall.

Everyone in the group should be really proud of the effort they displayed on stage. Our shell blowers are Jairus, Adarsh, and Louchous, and our pukaia blower, Swaide, did a really good job. It was a tough competition because every school was giving 100% to win the night's competition. This was a great day for all of us to embrace and let out all the hard work we had put into our performance. Overall, it was just a great day.
