Two water polo teams traveled to Dunedin to play against other schools in the final, and happily came home with first place. Bella tells us about it!
In the water there are seven players all set up in a triangle, Bellas position is the post which is right next to the goal. Water polo is a very rough game players can scratch and hit you underwater, Bella told us about the time she came from the pool with scratches all up her leg and another time when a player was swearing at her he ended up getting red carded and missed out on the next two games!
While you are in the water you have to work really hard beating your legs like an egg beater to keep upright and not touching the bottom. Learning to tread water like this was hard but after more practice it got easier but most of the time you are swimming after the ball!
The A and B team travelled down to Dunedin to participate in the South Island tournament. Bella went in the car with her mum. It was fun and Bella even got McDonalds. When they got there they played their best and Bella knew she needed to have a good mindset, be proud and don’t stop working hard. The A team made the final, and managed to get the win!
Bella enjoyed it so much she thinks she will keep playing right the way through high school.
