On Thursday 3rd June 2021, Tyson Trenberth from Room 11 and myself (Daniel Wordsworth) got picked up from school by three Crusaders.
I entered a competition and got the chance to get picked up and go to watch the Captain's Run, which is the final training before the game. This particular captains' run was prior to their match against the Western Force.
Tyson and I traveled to the Orange Theory Stadium in a Hyundai Santa Fe with George Bridge, Brett Cameron, and Quinten Strange. On the way, I was chatting to George Bridge about rugby and what was in store for their training. The three Crusaders talked a lot of banter between each other as well as chatting to Tyson and me.
After I reached the stadium I got to pass a ball around with the Crusaders and played a game of two balls. They lead us down the tunnel where the players enter the field and took us to the changing rooms. I found the changing rooms really interesting because there was a spa there which players use to warm up their muscles, as well as an ice tub used to cool down. We enjoyed looking at the photographs hanging up in the changing room of the players back when they were my age playing club rugby. There was also a list of all of the players that had played 100 or more games for the Crusaders.
Finally, we got to sit in the coach's boxes where there was a lot of technology including cameras, microphones, computers, and more.
Overall, we really enjoyed our trip with the Crusaders!
