Once a week on a Friday afternoon students interested in digital technology gather together to form the digi extension group with Mr. Mutch.
The Digi club is an exciting group to participate in on a Friday afternoon, challenging us with a variety of coding activities.
When we first joined the Digi club someone from ‘Code Club Aotearoa’ came to talk to us about different types of coding.
There are several types of coding websites available to code on, however, at Casebrook we focus on using two. The two different types of code we do include Python, which requires you to write the code, secondly, we also use Scratch where you use ready-made code blocks.
To learn how to use the different codes we use modules that teach us how to use them. Module one is the easiest module that you would use if you were just starting. If you are a beginner at coding, Scratch is easier than Python because the codes are already there and you don't need to write them out.
In Digi, we have enjoyed the modules. We have already chosen and completed a project that we wanted to code. Code Club Aotearoa was really helpful as it gave us step-by-step information on the project we had chosen. Once we finished our code, we saved our project and moved onto the next module. The variety of modules gives us a challenge that we really enjoy.
Thank you Mr Mutch for giving us these opportunities in the Digi space.
