On Monday 9th November, the Eco-warriors walked to Papanui Bush. Once they arrived, they weeded the grass around the new native trees, to allow them better growth.
This benefits us because it cleanses our polluted air. This means we will be breathing healthier and safer air. Growing native trees can also bring back native birds to the area, which means that they can nest and breed more around Papanui.
We interviewed Bella, who went on the trip. She said, “I really enjoyed the fact that we got to hangout with our friends, while knowing that we are helping our environment too!”
Lucy also quoted, ‘’I enjoyed the fact that we were having fun while helping the planet.’’
We interviewed Miss Clark and asked her a few questions starting with, “ What is your favourite part about learning about conservation?”
She responded with, ``Finding out what we can do to help slow down climate change.”
Our second question was, “What was your favourite part of the trip?” Miss Clark said, ‘’I loved seeing how hard all the students worked!’’ One of the last questions we asked her was, ‘’What can Casebrook do to help the environment? She told us, “ Don't litter, also pick up rubbish if you see any on the ground.”
Dennis (he is a local that loves the bush and knows a lot about the history) and Annette (a member of the City Council) are doing heaps to help our bush! They watch closely and look after the younger plants, so they can sprout to the best of their ability.
They can’t wait to see these trees grow to their potential where native birds and animals will flourish!
