Discord - A Communication App to Avoid

By Nick Leith | Posted: Wednesday March 11, 2020

It's really hard to keep up with the apps on your kid's phones, so it helps to know which ones are okay, and which ones are not.

Discord = Delete!

We’ve had some advice from social media experts about an app your children might be using called ‘Discord’ - marketed as a free voice and text chat for ‘gamers’ aged 13+. The concerns they have is the content on this app is harmful and highly inappropriate to children of Intermediate age.

Like all apps that promote social networking, Discord is promoted to adults as well as kids and your child would have no idea who they are really chatting with about gaming. At Casebrook we recommend no access to such apps on phones in the hands of children aged 11-13.

You can make informed choices about new apps by visiting useful websites such Common Sense Media and by checking out the reviews of the various apps that your children may be sharing large quantities of personal information on.

Discord would be an app that your child should avoid (and tictok while you’re at it!).
