Ruby and Sienna in Room 15 review some of the top opportunities that Casebrook has offered the Year 8's and the rest of the school.

2019 has been fun and exciting for the Year Eights who have had many opportunities to succeed in engaging activities throughout the year.

Camp

This year all the Year 8's had the opportunity to go on a school camp. There were many new activities to try such as giant swing, coasteering, kayaking, trek and raft building. We interviewed Tavia Ralston, a Year 8 student, and asked her what her favourite activity from camp was. She said it was the giant swing ‘‘because it was such an amazing experience and the thrill of going that high in the sky and then suddenly dropping back down to earth, the camp is definitely something to look forward to.”

Hagley Sport

This year we had a variety of summer and winter sports here are some examples for winter sport there were hockey, football, rugby union, rugby league, table tennis.  For summer sport there was cricket, softball, futsal, touch, ultimate frisbee. These were some of the sports students could be involved with. We interviewed Sienna in Room 15 and her favourite thing about Hagley was getting involved with hockey and having fun. Even though her team didn't win every game, they still tried their best and had a good time.

Mount Cook

Mount Cook was an optional camp for students throughout the whole school to go on. They did a range of activities such as glacier boating, a big walk and many other activities. We interviewed Lizzie and asked her what her favourite thing was. ‘It was glacier boating, because it was interesting looking at all the ice and finding out lots of information about the icebergs’’. Future students of Casebrook will have the opportunity to go to this every second year and on alternate years go to Wellington for the Capital Connections Trip.

Production

This year Casebrook had its annual school-wide production. The theme was the history of rugby. This was a great chance for the students to audition for the main cast. Each class participated in their class dance choreographed by Miss Sherwin and taught to us by Angela, the school dance teacher. Mrs Feron, the teacher of Room 15 directed and wrote the script for the production with the help of Miss Kerr and Miss Sherwin. It was fantastic and you could tell she put a lot of effort into it. The jazz and specialist dance also performed in the class dances as well as their group dance. It was an amazing experience for all the students who enjoyed it a lot.

Cultural Festival

This year Casebrook had three cultural groups performing in the cultural festival. There was the Kapa haka, Pasifika and Korean Dance. All the students involved rehearsed hard and they did an awesome job and represented Casebrook well. They were the last act to go on and closed the 2019 Cultural Festival with a bang!

The Year 8's have put a lot of effort into this year and tried their best with all their work. They have enjoyed their time at Casebrook and feel well prepared to move onto High School next year. The Year 7's sure have a lot to look forward to!
