Last week our Nōku te Ao group was lucky enough to visit Ngā Hau e Whā Marae.
As soon as they arrived they were welcomed onto the Marae with a karanga followed by performances about the history of Maori. The boys got to learn a Haka, while the girls learnt a new waiata using poi. Here are some of what people have said about their experience:
Mac (Rm 14): I have never been to a Marae before but the vibes I got were good and I really enjoyed it. My favourite part of the experience was the massive haka at the end. I found it interesting learning about all of the different gods and tribe leaders.
Keegan (Rm 15): I have never been to a Marae before so I felt very nervous. My favourite part about the experience was learning about the Atua. I also enjoyed learning about Maori history. Overall, I enjoyed this experience and would do it again.
Miss Bull (Rm 7): I have been to a Marae before but I was most excited to take Casebrook students. My favourite part was seeing all of our Casebrook students getting involved. I loved learning about the Tipuna and enjoyed the entire experience.
Thank you to Mātua Leys and Miss Bull for organising this experience.
