Every year 100s of students from all over the South Island compete in this basketball tournament in the April school holidays. This year Casebrook Intermediate entered a boys and a girls team into the development grades.
Isaiah, Tenaycheous, Lewis, Lam, Ryan, Charlie, Dillon, Isaiah, Jesse and Mataio (and Bronsen on the first day) made up the boys team. The team started off quietly, finding their way on the court and as a team. As the tournament progressed, the boys grew in confidence and the team grew stronger. The team began using some offensive plays that helped them to secure wins, finishing 3rd in their pool. In their final game, the boys finished 6th overall out of 12 teams. This team had amazing attitudes and represented Casebrook with REP! It was an absolute pleasure working with this team.
Terongomaianiwaniwa, Kallarney, Leila, Paige, Sienna, Zoey, Jemma, Manaia, Sophie and Lola made up the girls team. This team had a tough first day playing the two North Canterbury teams. The North Canterbury teams being too strong for our girls. On day two, the girls were a different team. Their confidence in themselves and their teammates grew with every game and this showed in the close games they had. In their final game, the girls had a tough match but managed to secure the win, finishing 5th in the development grade. The girls spirit and willingness to learn was awesome. I am so proud of the girls and everything they brought to this tournament.

A massive thank you to all of the students and their whanau for your support throughout the tournament, we couldn't have done it without you!
It is important to mention the other Casebrook students who played in the tournament. Cooper's team (Eastside Scorpions) finished 2nd in the boys A grade in a nail bitting final against North Canterbury. Marcus and Keegan's team (Cowles) finished 6th in the boys A grade. Hayden's team (NC Cheetahs) finished 2nd in the development grade in another nail bitting final, going into overtime. Rafferty and Ophelia's team (NC Wildcats) won the girls A grade final in yet another nail bitting final, narrowly beating Cobham Intermediate. Congratulations to Rafferty who received MVP for her team and for making the tournament team.
