Casebrook Cross Country Run in Ideal Winter Conditions

By Sharon Keen | Posted: Sunday May 29, 2016

It was damp underfoot but the sun shone, allowing our annual school cross country to be run yesterday afternoon.  Our students have been in training all term in preparation for this event and we congratulate all participants as we realise it is an event enjoyed by some more than others.  It was great to see a number of whanau supporting the runners at the finish line.

Last week, Mr John Parsons, a cyber safety expert was hosted by a group of local Intermediate Schools. John spoke to parents on the Thursday evening in the Chisnallwood school hall.  Unfortunately numbers in attendance were low but for those that were able to make it the evening was very informative and gave us all a great deal to think about when it comes to keeping our children safe in the digital world.

John's website details can be found later in the newsletter, it is well worth a read.

In our newsletters we celebrate the many success our students have but today I would like to acknowledge a number of our staff members.

Miss Lydia Muschamp has been selected as the "Assistant Conductor of the Junior Special Choir for the Christchurch Music Festival."  This is no surprise to us as we hear the fantastic results achieved with the Casebrook Singers.

Mr Will Stribling is working as a facilitator for the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) programme. This involves visiting local schools and assisting them as they enter the programme. This is a wonderful experience and also acknowledges our school as a lead school.

Casebrook has been recognised for its creation and implementation of an innovative writing programme, specifically designed to engage the students we work with. Teachers and students have been filmed as part of a training video and Mr Nick Leith has spoken to teacher groups who are just entering the Ministry programme.  A great effort from all involved and it is having very positive results on our students writing achievement.

As we move into the winter months students are wearing their school jerseys and jackets more.  Please ensure these are clearly named.  If your child does misplace a piece of their uniform have them check their classroom, the school office and the lost property room located beside the fabric room.

The term is progressing very well from our perspective but if you do have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Enjoy the long weekend.
