Students capture audience with outstanding speeches.
On Tuesday 1 September we held the Casebrook Speech Finals competition. There were 10 finalists, as follows:
Brianna Alsford
Emma Lilly
Betty Shin
Hannah Lemon
Amy McMillan
Caleb Cottom
Lileeh Davis
Meg Lancaster
Cameron Joe
Ellise O'Neill
Speeches ranged from such topics as 'How to procrastinate', 'Child poverty', 'My big brother', 'Recycling' to 'Vegetable rights'. We were well entertained by all.
We are very grateful for the help of Mr Mark Baker from Toastmasters who judged the final and gave pointers to the school on what makes a good speech. We welcome his expert advice. He will be tutoring the Year 7 and 8 place holders in the coming weeks.
The winner of the speech competition this year was Hannah Lemon who spoke on 'Peer Pressure'. Meg Lancaster was placed 2nd overall with her speech on 'Flu jabs' and Cameron Joe was 3rd with his speech on 'Annoying things people do'. Congratulations to these people and to Amy McMillan and Emma Lilly who were placed 1st and 2nd from their year group and will represent Casebrook Year 7's at the Rotary contest. A great effort by all! We wish these contestants every success at their up and coming competitions.
