On Saturday 29th of August our band “K-lib” headed to Kaiapoi High school to compete in Band Quest - an event where bands from all over Canterbury go to compete.
This annual event showcases bands from all over the Canterbury region
and is part of a larger national band competition. It is specifically
run for Intermediate age children and is a stepping stone towards the
national Smokefree Rockquest event. At the Bandquest event each band can
perform two songs and are judged as an overall group and individually in
numerous categories. Once we arrived at the venue we went to the green room to set up our instruments. We then found seats and waited for the show to start. The time went fast as we watched some bands perform. Then came our time - the time where we would have to show the judges all the hard work we had put into our rehearsals. We played two songs; “Say You Like Me" and "Really Don’t Care”. After we performed we were confident that we would have a chance of winning, or at least getting a placing. Our brilliant teacher, Mr. Steve Fowler, said our performance was “tight” and our best performance yet.
The show came to an end and it was time to hear the results. Our band ended up coming second and we also got some soloist awards too. Althea Torres got 'Best Keyboarder', Caleb Barlow got the 'Musicianship Award' and Cameron got the 'Male Vocalist' award. This was a great achievement for the band and is just reward for long hours of practice. It was a very successful night for our band and on behalf of all of the members I would like to thank our Rock Band tutor for the effort he has put into our rehearsals and teaching us.
