Luke McCallum is a talented swimmer who has recently competed in the Makos Zone, New Zealand Junior Swimming Festival. Luke received a range of prizes in his age category including 1st 50m breaststroke, 1st 100m breaststroke, 1st 200m breaststroke and 2nd in the 200m individual medley.
Luke has been swimming for 7 years and trains at the Aqua Gym 3 times a week for approximately 2 -3 hours. He entered his first competition in March last year and has had great results since then. Luke said, “When I hopped in the water for the first time I really liked it and as I got older my parents entered me in a swimming competition in Ashburton. I came first in it and realised that I was pretty good at swimming”.
Luke’s goal is to win gold at the Olympics for 200 metre backstroke. We wish him all the best for his future in swimming.
