Since its inception in 1977, the FIFA U-20 World Cup has developed into the second largest men’s competition in FIFA’s global calendar and has involved some of the biggest names in world football.
Over a three week period in June 2015, 24 teams from 6 continents will contest 52 matches at seven venues across New Zealand. For 23 of the teams, the FIFA U-20 World Cup will be the culmination of a challenging qualification process.
As host and automatic qualifier, New Zealand has the opportunity to match its skills against the best that the world can offer.
An average of over one million people have attended each of the last four FIFA U-20 World Cups, meaning more than 20,000 spectators per match have enjoyed the colour, scope and spectacle of the show put on by the best young players on the planet. The FIFA U-20 World Cup has also become a showcase for the most exciting brand of uninhibited football, resulting in more goals and more action on average than even FIFA World Cup matches.
World legends in football have regularly featured in previous editions of the tournament. The likes of Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos and Michael Owen as well as an array of younger stars like Colombia’s James Rodrigues, Brazil’s Oscar and France’s Paul Pogba have graced the tournament with their presence. Simply put, this will be the best football ever seen on our shores.
To mark this special event we are hosting a family and schools day where we will reserve a special section of the stadium for primary and intermediate schools and their families. As you are a part of Casebrook Intermediate School we are inviting school students and families to register their interest before Friday May 1 by returning this completed form to the School Office with all monies. Order form attached below.
