Human Papilloam avirus (HPV) is a common viral infection which can lead to cervical cancer and genital warts. Early HPV immunisation offers the best protection against contracting these diseases.
While girls in Canterbury can get this through their general practice at age 11, a number of girls have not completed the three doses needed for full protection. Therefore, from 2016, the Canterbury DHB will be offering a School Based Human Papilloam avirus (HPV) vaccination programme which will be available for all girls in Year 8.
To enable students to receive the vaccination at school, parents will need to complete the consent form which has been sent home.
