‘Māori Made easy’ is a class for beginners interested in learning te reo Māori in a fun and simple way.
‘Māori made easy’ is run by Mr Leys and Miss Bull but in Māori you say Whia Bull and Matua Leys. They also run ‘Nuko te au’ which is for people who have Māori heritage.
At ‘Māori made easy’ there is a starting Karakia which is like a Māori prayer, followed by a set of new words to learn, a video then a game in te reo and a finale Karakia.
Mila Hale, a Year seven student who goes to the class said, “ I love getting to know new Māori words, the meanings and how to use them”. Mila also said, “I found it really easy to learn te reo considering the last time I learned Māori was when I was a Year five.
We asked Mr Leys and Miss Bull why they wanted to start up the ‘Māori made easy’ and ‘Nuko te au’. They said, “ We do this so more people will learn the Maori language and we can hear it around Casebrook and to give the students more opportunities to do what they want”.
According to the students who go to ‘Māori made easy’ it is really fun and simple and they recommend everyone does it.
