Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori @ Te Kura Mareko

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori was a very successful event. As a school, we ran various learning activities to celebrate one of our national languages throughout the previous week.

On Monday we introduced the weeks activities focusing on different kupu each day and a new activity to do as a class.

In the classroom, we completed colouring in competitions, and online language competitions against other schools in Aotearoa. Hunter from Room 1 took out the Casebrook 1st place title.

We learnt how to do traditional string games, and how to code a bilingual chatbot on Scratch.

Senior students went around asking kaiako and ākonga to finish the lyrics of waiata we have learnt with the school. This was a highlight for many!

On Thursday we had a school wide tōtiti hihi (sausage sizzle) where student servers and students ordering a tōtiti did so only using te reo māori. This was a great success, seeing students and staff embrace learning new kupu.
